Ur-scene. -- The two Giacometti figures at the top of this page always remind me of a formative experience in my childhood. One of my parents was in a (strictly Freudian) psychoanalysis, and on one occasion (when no babysitter was available) I was taken along and played in the waiting room. The toys were provided by the therapist: a basket full of dolls and materials to build walls and fences between (some of) them. To this day I recall the shrink's shock and horror when he saw what I had done: all figures were at maximum distance from one another, and there were high walls between all of them. You may draw your own conclusions about my childhood. -- But look at the bright side, too: the walls are gone, and the figurines are masterpieces.
