Worried Relief. -- Vienna will (in all likelihood) continue to have a coalition government formed by the Social democrats and the Green Party. That is the outcome I had been hoping for. I am delighted that the xenophobic "Freedom [sic!] Party" did not succeed in its declared bid to become the strongest grouping in the new local parliament. And yet, the fact that the "FPÖ" managed to get more than 30% of the vote, and even majorities in several working-class districts, is disturbing. (Not so long ago, political commentators predicted that the far right would not be able to break through the 25% limit.) I shudder when I think of the next national elections.
