“La Cenerentola” at the Staatsoper. – Two weeks ago we saw Wagner’s “Flying Dutchman”, yesterday (Saturday) we had Rossini’s comedy. Both performances were excellent, especially Margarita Gritskova was flawless and touching as Angelina. But the difference in plot and musical form could not have been starker: darkness, death and desperation in the one, lightness, love and good luck in the other. Which one do I prefer? Well, I had a spring in my step after “La Cenerentola”.
